Privacy
LocalWork ("we") runs a free directory of local workers and businesses. This page explains what we collect and why.
Customers looking for a service
- You do not need an account to search. To contact a worker you create an account with your name, email address and a password, and confirm your email by a link we send.
- If you tap "Use my location", your phone asks for permission first. We round your position to about 1 km, use it only to sort that search, and do not save it. It can appear in the page address of your own browser history.
- You contact a worker by sending a request through LocalWork. The request and the messages you and the worker exchange are stored by LocalWork so you can both read them. Workers see your name, never your email address.
- Phone numbers cannot be sent in a conversation until the worker accepts the request. After that, sharing your number is your choice. When a worker accepts, you see the worker's phone number in that conversation, unless the worker has turned this off.
- LocalWork staff do not read conversations unless one side reports it. Opening a reported conversation is recorded in our audit log.
- We email you when a worker replies. Notification emails say who wrote, not what they wrote. Emails are sent through our email provider, Resend.
- We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We set one cookie to remember your language and, when you sign in, one to keep you signed in.
Businesses and workers who list themselves
- We collect your name, business name, service, business phone number, optional WhatsApp number, areas served, optional business address and location, description and optional photo.
- Your profile phone and WhatsApp numbers are not published in directory results. If you choose to publish a visiting card, its contact number and address are public to anyone with the card link. Account contact details remain available to LocalWork staff to check listings and help you. Customers contact you through requests inside LocalWork. When you accept a request, that customer sees your number in the conversation; you can turn this off in your owner page.
- To receive requests you give us an email address for alerts. It is never shown to customers.
- You choose whether to publish your business address. Anything you publish can be seen and copied by visitors.
- Individuals are shown by base area. If you add an approximate location, we round it to about 1 km so a home cannot be found.
- When you list yourself we give you an owner code. We keep only a scrambled version of it. Keep the code safe: with your reference it lets you update, pause or remove your listing.
- We do not ask for your CNIC or any identity document number.
- Photos are resized and their hidden data (such as GPS position) is removed.
- You can ask us to correct, claim or remove your listing at any time using the request form.
Requests and reports
If you send a correction, claim, removal request or report, we keep your message and the phone number you give so our team can contact you. These are never published.
Our small public data feed (API) contains the same details as the public pages and nothing you chose to hide.
Google Maps results
If you choose "Also search Google Maps", your search words (and your rounded location, if you shared it) are sent to Google to get results. Google's own privacy policy applies to that request. We do not store Google's results.
Security and abuse prevention
To stop spam we keep a one-way scrambled code made from your internet address with each form you send. We cannot turn it back into your address.
Optional phone and browser notifications
If you choose to enable push notifications, we store a notification subscription associated with your account or worker profile so we can alert your device to new requests and messages. Your browser or phone's notification service processes delivery of these alerts. You can disable notifications in your browser or device settings; account deletion also removes stored subscriptions.
Account deletion and your choices
You can delete your LocalWork account from Account settings after signing in and confirming your password. This removes the account and its associated worker listings, requests, messages, jobs, ratings, saved workers and push subscriptions. If you cannot access your account, contact us using the request form to ask for help with deletion or correction. You can also hide your worker profile without deleting your account.
How long we keep data
Conversations are deleted 12 months after the request closes. Our email delivery log is kept for 30 days and notifications for 90 days. Finished job posts are deleted after 12 months. A listing removed by its owner is hidden at once and deleted completely on request. Some security and operational logs may be retained as required for security, service operation or legal obligations.
